Because you've gotta have FAITH!

Hello Friday!

Well I am returning with some of my famous artwork again! Please forgive me now haha!

I opened to Hebrews last night and found myself diving into Hebrews 11. This was all about great examples of faith.  First lets define faith: Faith is the conviction based on past experience that God's new and fresh surprises will be ours. Complete trust or confidence. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.
Do you remember when you were little and you were so anxious and excited as your birthday approached? You were sure you'd receive gifts and maybe other special treats, but some things were going to be a surprise. It combined assurance and anticipation. This is exactly what we experience with faith. Of course as you get older it seems our birthdays get a tad more boring lol, but it's all in what you make it! As we get older our faith becomes more vast. We are pushed in ways we never even knew of when we were little. This is why it becomes so pivotal in being able to cope with the struggles of life.

So as I was reading, it just named off so many people in the bible that relied on their faith. (Noah, Sarah, Abraham, Jacob, Isaac, Moses...)It is what got them through, it's what helped create the amazing example we have of them to live by.
Hebrews 11:6 "So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there is a God and he rewards those who sincerely seek him."

But what about those who haven't heard of Christ and have not been given a bible to read?! What about their fate? God assures us that all who honestly seek him, who act in faith on the knowledge of God they possess will be rewarded. When we share the message with others it gives them an opportunity to make that choice. To honestly and sincerely seek out more. I also feel that people in desolate places of the earth, that may not have access to the bible or others that can share the good news, I pray and feel that God has inserted a desire within them, a natural instinct to know there is a creator. That is why it is also so very important to have missionaries and speak the truth to others.

Throughout Hebrews it does talk about the people of faith that died without receiving all that God had promised here on earth. But they never lost their vision of heaven and eternal life.
That is tough sometimes as sinners. We become expectant sometimes that what we ask for and pray for has to happen. We put our stock into earthly possessions and temporary feelings. But sometimes we feel that God is not answering these things for us. That does not mean he has abandoned us. We may want to get impatient and want to quit, but these recounts of the people in the bible that may have felt the same way should give us hope. Take courage that these heroes of faith, who lived and died without seeing the fruit of their faith in earth, yet they continued to believe. They lived their faith!
"It was by faith that the people of Israel went right through the Red sea as though they were on dry ground." Hebrews 11:29

I don't know about you, but can you say you would have conquered that so bravely?
Talk about faith that God was not going to let you down and you'd die by drowning in the Red Sea.

Life is tough. But so is the God we worship. He is tougher! Having a steadfast faith in God does not guarantee a happy, carefree life. Actually, our faith almost guarantees us some sort of abuse from the world. While we are here we may not see the purpose of our suffering. That makes this so much more difficult. But we know that God will keep his promises to us. Do you have faith in that?

When we face hardship, it is easy to get discouraged and lose sight of the big picture. But we are not alone. Many have already made it through this life enduring far more difficult circumstances than we have experienced. Suffering is the training for Christian maturity. It's what makes our final victory so sweet.

I will leave you with one last thing I read and sat with.
The beginning point of faith is believing in God's character. He IS who he says. the end point is believing in God's promises. He will DO what he says. When we believe that even though we may not see those promises materializing yet, we demonstrate true faith.

I hope you have a BLESSED and FAITHFUL weekend!

Math help needed!!!!! Please pass along and share!

Hello everyone!!
So I need your help! Well actually my little owls need your help! We are starting to create our own word problems independently in math. This seems like such a simple task maybe, but let me tell you it is not. I really believe in starting that early on. I mean they could do it with assistance as a whole group and the teacher is the transcriber. There are many ways you can offer guidance, support, and slow release but yet still let the little friends take ownership. I plan to elaborate more with examples on another blog post. My original intent today was asking for help haha. So like I said, we are working hard on being able to use our numeracy knowledge to build and construct word problems and then use our strategies to solve them.

Today we practiced together and then I was like "AH! What if we write word problems to other classes in first grade or other grades and have them delivered and see how they solve them!" and then we were like, "AHH! What if we write word problems and take a picture and put it on social media and ask for other kids and teacher's classes to solve them to show us how they are learning?!" and then one of my sweet as punkin pie girls was like, "AHHH! What if we wrote one and mailed it to the hospital where the sick kids are and they can have fun solving it!" and then I was like, "AHHHH! Great idea! But we will each write one and compile them and send them all at once to save Mrs. B postage!"
By the end of this whole Oprah Ah-ha moment we were out of time but had some ideas and we are going to get started soon!
We only got one written since we were so excited and all. So this is what I ask. Below is a picture of the word problem my little owls came up with all on their own and hand written by a sweetie all herself!
If you are a teacher, know a teacher, want to be a teacher lol. We would love it if you could solve the problem using whatever models and strategies that best suite you and your students. Take a picture or even a video and upload to my Facebook blog page to show us! I want my kids to see how there are multiple ways to problem solve and get to an answer. I also think it will broaden their horizons a bit more about how large the world is. Because honestly right now we sometimes can't even process the fact we live in the state of Texas, our country is the USA and stop the world we live in a continent called North America!!!And that is only ONE of SEVEN!!

Steps for completion:
1. Copy the problem and solve as a class or independently.
2. Take a picture or video of how you solved it.
3. Upload it to the Facebook page.
4. Hashtag it with #theblessedocdiva #owlslearnmath  #owlmathematicians
5. Feel free to also leave any comments you want as well over at the FB page too!

Thank you SO much for helping teach my little learners!!!Please share this with anyone and everyone that would like to participate. It does not just have to be 1st graders! We plan on doing this until the end of the year so keep your eyes peeled for more over at the FB page!!

Have a BLESSED evening!!

Five for Friday!!! Reading, Math, Videos!!

Does it seem like Friday keeps coming more frequently lately? Just me?
Well I am linking up with DoodleBugs for another wonderful Five for Friday!

We've been working on Fairy tales! I might have mentioned that already?! I feel like I might be losing my mind slightly here at the end of the year. ha!
Anyways, take a look at what we've done!
Wrote letters to a character from our fairy tales. This also incorporated teaching them the parts of a the letter as well and having them apply it!

We enjoyed buddy reading some of our very own LEVELED fairy tales! Swoon! Did I mention they are LEVELED?! Meaning I can give them to my various leveled kiddos reading all over the place and accommodate for all of them!! They still get to experience fairy tales for themselves!

You should totally look into them! They are from Fountas and Pinnell.

We then practiced our sequencing as well!

Not complete without tracking our reading and our "noticings" for each fairytale and its "twist" book!

These just right books are from Scholastic and are perfect!!!!

Working on sight words in small group! "On the table?!" is what I heard alll week! They loved it!

We are still working on time to the hour and half hour.

I made time dice out of blank cubes I found at Dollar Tree and also a blank clock for writing and wiping. You can find that at my TPT store.

I also made some time index cards as well with different times for them to flip over and use.

They can build upon their skills as they go. Here are a few ways to combine!
They pick a time card, use the judy clock to put the hands on it, then draw their own hands on the wipe off clock.

Another way is to just roll the dice and then use my recording sheet to practice drawing the hands and digital time.

Again, at Sheppard Software they have a clock splat game we all played together first before using it in rotations.

A couple years ago I bought a clock stamp and started using it to pre-make some construction paper templates.  The kids can then create a sequence for things they do during the day. They draw the hands on the clock, write the time, draw a picture, and write a sentence. You hit math, reading, and writing all at once!

I had posted this one my FB page the other day too. The weather was SOOO amazing so we took some of our time activities outside to work!

Friday was fun! We practiced some place value during math rotations. This time I thought it was time to amp it up and instead of groups of 3 or partners I'd try out larger groups. STOP THE WORLD! They were like "What?! Oh my gosh really? Wow we are going to have to work together even more!"
haha! yes sweets that's the point!
I was SO impressed how they accomplished it!! My heart was bursting!

I heard so much math talk and cooperative talk and problems being solved. Welcome to real life little ones!
Some strategies they came up with to work together:
-Pass the card around and everyone counts to check each other
-all count together
-recheck...because "Good mathematicians always check their work!"

Here is some video of them all working together to figure out the answer.

Some other randomness!
This beauty is coming home soon! Thanks to my family! She will accompany this mini one I have from my dad!

Finally planted some flowers for our chiminea!

If you have not followed me on FACEBOOK please head over and do that, you will get notifications and I post almost daily over yonder. I also do videos, freebies, and give away's from there as well if I don't get a chance to do them here!

I will leave you with this thought...

Have a BLESSED weekend!!!
